Seminar by Prof. Seiji Utsumi on the education in a refugee camp in Kenya

On Dec. 21, 2016, we had an opportunity to invite Prof. Seiji Utsumi of Kyoto Women's University based on his years of experience of working on education in post-conflict situation.

The talk touched on various issues faced by youths and children who are defected from Southern Sudan to Kakuma Refugee Camp in Kenya for want of the opportunities of education. In this lecture, Prof. Utsumi introduced the educational situations of the camp based on his research in 2015 and 2016. Educational issues such as overaged students, low net enrollment rate, and causes of gender gap will be discussed.
