Nagoya sightseeing with Prof. Chege

Hi this is Ichi. As we know, we had a wonderful visitor, prof. Fatuma Chege, who is specialized in memory work in researching, from Kenya. During her stay in Nagoya, I took her a one-day sightseeing tour with Jacob to introduce some parts of Nagoya city. Firstly, we went to Nagoya castle, one of the historical and biggest castles in Japan. She was really impressed by the gorgeous view and castle’s huge stone walls (Ishigaki) since each giant stone was piled up so sophisticatedly. I hope she enjoyed seeing the history and the culture of Edo-era as I myself really had a good time as well. After visiting Nagoya castle, we moved to Nagoya station to have Misonikomi-udon, which is a local special food in Nagoya. During the lunch we enjoyed having conversation about the cultural difference between Kenya and Japan. I and Jacob also received really helpful and valuable advice on how to conduct a qualitative research from her. After the lunch, we went to Toyota Industry and Technology Museum to see the modern achievements done by Toyoda families, founder of Toyota Motor Corporation. The high technology astonished us and it was great opportunity to see how Japanese technologies, especially for motor vehicles, have been introduced and developed in Japan. It was great to see prof. Chege, whose personality is just wonderful, and have opportunity to introduce her my hometown. I believe she enjoyed seeing both historical side and modern side of Japan through the excursion! Thank you once again for coming to GSID, and we hope to see you again!
