Open Seminar on Education Sector Analysis (ESA) given by Dr. Weidman

It was one of the greatest opportunities for class members and me to participate in a very fascinating lecture on "Education Sector Analysis" delivered by a long-year experienced professor from University of Pittsburgh.

Prof. Weidman has offered us the general understanding of why Education Sector Analysis (ESA) is worthy to learn and how it is developed to gain a productive result. It is obvious that to have a successful policy, it requires a critical analysis of the issues so that educational stakeholders will have more confidence and optimism when implementing policy. Most importantly, by conducting Education Sector Analysis, stakeholders will be able to identify not only the priorities, target groups, but also recognize achievable objectives. Prof. Weidman has also shared us with his hands-on experiences in doing the sector analysis particularly in developing countries. For example, education data collection is one of the stressful tasks which sometimes require lots of great effort and persistence to get access to the raw materials from the government or other institutions. There are other several themes which were raised during the presentation such as process and product of ESA, tools for data analysis, policy formulation and implementation, and skill requirements, etc.

Personally, this special lecture has landed me the ground to understand more deeply regarding the process to do the policy analysis in education which is really closely linked to the course we are taking: Educational Development Policies.
